Dimmers or Dimmer Switches install generally in most houses are required by the needs to create the interior ambient for pleasant living by adjusting the level of lamination of each and every rooms or corners. Most dimmers are not aiming to reduce power consumption, conserve energy and designed to install with tungsten incandescent lamp types only.
Household electrical is AC with sign wave at 50 Hz, 220 Volt. The principle of dimmer’s function is to reduce the sign wave distorting away from original supply by using semiconductor electronic devise such as SCR, Triac or Diac.
In simple words, the turning types of dimmers deploy the circuit resistance method to increase or decrease the voltage the same way as radio tuning knob.
Dimmer Triac+Diac Operating Circuit
Explanation: from the figure, the loaded sine wave is distorted from input and caused the reduction of the loaded illumination.

the lamp by adjusting the degree of triggering signal
- Up to 1% for incandescent lamps
- Up to 60% for High Pressure Sodium
- Up to 50% for Metal Halide or Mercury Lamps
